DESIGN NOTES:

Graphic designed in Adobe Illustrator and selected by US Soccer for consideration as the 2020 Scarf Design for Soccer Insiders.

SIDE 1- BLUE FIELD OF STARS AND CONSTELLATIONS – ONE NATION. ONE TEAM.

Like our flag this blue field is representative of the night sky and has 50 stars to show the unity of all the US states in support of US SOCCER.

There are four symbolic constellations among the stars. The USMNT, USWNT and USSOCCER are symbolic of constellations, because they are filled with more “stars” than can be counted.  USSOCCER is in a larger font to emphasize neither team is more important than the whole of USSOCCER.

The stars and constellations are lighter than “ONE NATION. ONE TEAM” to emphasize the need to focus on what is right here and now, right in front of you, while aiming for the stars/dreams.  The stars are spread about somewhat haphazardly to symbolize soccer can be found anywhere in the world, with groups/leagues, or on a single field for a pick-up game.

The fourth constellation is Aquila (Latin for eagle).  Aquila is a constellation on the celestial equator and in Greco-Roman mythology it was the bird that carried Zeus/Jupiter's thunderbolts.  Thunderbolts are what our team’s shoot in games.  Aquila is made from eight of the 50 stars.  It is in the lower right corner next to the crest and below the USWNT constellation.

Aquila, the eagle constellation is shaped like the below-

SIDE 2 – USSOCCER – CREST – RED STRIPES – WHITE STRIPES – ONE NATION. ONE TEAM.

The 13 red and white diagonal stripes on the blue field are representative of the US flag.  The broad forward slant of the stripes shows the strength and fortitude of US SOCCER.  “ONE NATION. ONE TEAM,” balances the design and emphasizes the unity of US SOCCER.
